This saturday, October 17th 2009 will take place a second boxe show at the Casino Barriere de Montreux. The first one
took place in March and gathered 650 people. For this edition the organisation expect to be sold out with around 1000 people.
5 professional fights will take place on that day including one with Yes Sruder (26 years old from Bern - European champion EBU / EE) called the "pitbull"
To bring a sexy side on this sport, Miss 2000 Volts (TV & Radio speakrine) will be on the microphone and the casino engaged some sexy ring-girls to count the rounds.
Prices are from CHF. 40. -- to CHF. 90. -- and it will start from 20h00

On the last week-end of October, I never miss the "Fête des planches". Probably because I have lived in this area for almost 8 years but also because it is a very charming area of
Montreux. "Les Planches" is in fact the old city of Montreux.
I could not find which edition it is...but I guess at least the 150th one....so a tradition in Montreux.
From Friday evening until sunday afternoon, many private houses open their cellars (we call them Carnozet in Swiss) and transform it into restaurants, bars with DJ's
or even with live music. These places are open very late in the night.
I never saw many tourists there but I guess it is a good occasion to discover the local life and to talk with some people living in the region.
This area is really nice, especially since many renovations were done in the "rue des planches" (main street of the area). 2 new restaurants opened (I did not try them yet) and
even a little tea room with an amazing view over the lake.
In the streets take place many animations for children, artisan stands with local products, concerts, etc....
If you do not wish to eat the typical sausages...go to the restaurant Museum (see section restaurant in the blog) which is very close and taste the charbonnade or the
fondue.
As this is the week-end of Halloween...you can also try the Opus Cafe which is in the area. It is always well decorated on this occasion. The atmosphere is a bit crazy and pretty young.
A great occasion to party and to discover the local life and products.

As I mentioned in a previous article, the Freddy Mercury Memorial day takes place in the city every year.
In 2009, it will be on September 06th & 07th 2009.
Many activities will take place during these 2 days:
- Boat ride to the lake House (house of Freddy Mercury) with Peter Freestone (he was the personal assistant of Freddy Mercury during the last 12 years of his
life)
- Possibility to have a lunch and dinner under the market place, near the statue and with live music.
- Projection of various Queen videos under the market place
- Peter Freestone will answer to the fam questions near the statue
- Live concerts at the NED
- Birthday celebration. For the occasion which will take place at 11.45pm, the Montreux municipality will offer a glass of wine of the region.
- and many more.....
I never attended this event but I know that several hundreds of fans are coming from all over the world on this occasion, so if you pass by the region, I guess it worth going to the covered
market place

The products of Vaud organize August 09th 2009 a giant Sunday brunch under the market hall to promote their production. The organization wants to attract many tourists visiting the
region but also locals.
This is the first time I see that kind of event held in Montreux but seems to me a good opportunity to discover the numerous local specialties such as: Bircher, potato salad
potato from Jorat, ham on the bone, sausage, cheese, fruits, etc ...
The market place is right on the lake in front of the Freddy Mercury statues - It will be served from 09:00 in an authentic atmosphere. I already attended a private event at that place
with 500 people - Great !!!!!! - If the organisation reaches that number, it will be successful.

On Friday, 25th of september 2009, in the setting of the prestigious Barriere Casino of Montreux, some fifteen show dogs will march past with top models in front of a VIP audience.
It is a new experience coming from the USA and Japan which is now also felt in Europe but nobody dared to do it.
With the association of the famous internationl judge of dog's beauty, Laurent Pichard, the decorator and designer Catherine Dalle - have decided to mark the minds by launching the first "Fashion Dog Show"
A great gala dinner will gather important international personalities around this unprecedented event in Europe. During the evening, the most beautiful women will present fifteen dogs
dressed by specialized couturiers.
The tombola presented during the evening will be entirely remitted to the association "Le Copain" growing
and breeding dogs for disabled and blind people.

On 13 June, the old
town of Montreux will be inaugurated.
After two long years of work, this beautiful historic site returns to its original beauty.
This part of the town which is more than 500 years old, will celebrate these renovations, and on this occasion will offer from 11am live music, expositions, entertainment
and competitions for the young and olds as well as food stands .
The formal ceremony will take place at 10.30am
On this occasion, the Visinand House & its museum which are celebrating their 40th anniversary will be open, free of charge.
If you are around on that day, take the opportunity to go to that event because this part of Montreux is just beautiful. It worse seeing all the old houses, fountains, caves, etc......
This district is only located 10 minutes from the town centre and enjoy beautiful lake views. It is also a good departure for those who like walking in the mountains.
