We mentioned you already a few months ago that the Canada will be the guest of honor of this Montreux Noël edition.
In order to discover their cuisine, 4 hotels (two 5 star & two 4 star) will create some dishes on their menu around some fixed themes.
Fairmont the Montreux Palace: Beef from Alberta (wisent)
Royal Plaza Montreux & Spa: Lobster from the Madeleine Island.
Suisse & Majestic: Salmon from Canada
Eurotel Riviera: Ham in maple syrup.

Time is running and the christmas market will already start in less than a month.
Another new event will take place at the Chillon castle.
On December 05, 06, 08, 12, 13, 19, 20th, a medieval market will recreate the 15th century life of a castle. There will be plenty of animations like Craftspeople, troubadours,
artillery and archery displays.
Moreover a traditional kitchen will be created as well as a medieval grocery store, an herbalist store, a pottery, a forge and many more.
I must say that when I read this, it really attracted me and without no doubt, I will pass by there to see how it is.
To go to the Chillon castle is very easy. You can either walk through the lakeside however it will take you around 1 hour otherwise you can take a bus (direction villeneuve) on the main street of
Montreux. If you are staying in a hotel of Montreux, with the Riviera Card, it will be free of charge.

The dates are finally
known - this great event will take place Nov 26th to Dec 24th 2009.
Sad that it won't last until Dec 26th like in 2008 but it seems that after Christmas, it wasn't a commercial success.
However for this 15th edition of the christmas market of Montreux, there will be an additional site featured. A Christmas village in the mountains in the village of Caux above
Montreux. This spot offers spectacular views over the lake and will entertain children with numerous games, plays areas, a live nativity scene and Santa Claus's
animals
Of course the 150 chalets will remain in Montreux and plenty of animations will take place at the Castle of Chillon.
Now it really worse staying 2-3 nights in the city to enjoy everything!

Good news, the Canada will be for
2009 the guest of Honor of Montreux Noël. In collaboration with the embassy of Canada in Bern, the Montreux chritmas market 2009 will make us discover this their culture and cuisine through
many animations.
Some more exciting news will follow soon for this 15th edition.

More than 410'000 people came to Montreux for the 2008 Christmas market, a number that almost doubled in 4 years. Not only tourists from
the region are coming, howver more and more italian, british, etc.....
More than 700 buses came to Montreux in december, especially in week-ends.
This workload involves new problems in terms of accessibility and security, so the direction of the Christmas market is currently working with local
authorities on a new concept to avoid the chaos like this December 07 that saw 75,000 people arriving.
Several options are under consideration including the possibility of introducing free bus for the weekend (as for the jazz festival, but the municipality always refused up to now for the
Christmas market) or completely closing the main street, reserving it for buses
A decision should be taken in April 2009

One of the best attraction is a visit to Santa Claus house, which is located at the top of the Rochers-
de-Naye (2032 meters) above Montreux. Children love to visit his house and his house. An excursion to do in family.
Due to a very high demand, we advise you to book your trian tickets in advance, especially on week-end days.

Have you heart about Montreux Noel ?
Maybe not yet as it is not as big as the one in Strasbourg for example. However, with 400'000 visitors every year, Montreux Noël is by far the biggest christmas market in Switzerland.
What does it make it different from other ones ? Beeing spread on several spots, it has a unique location that you will never find somewhere else.
