Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin, (16 April 1889 – 25 December 1977),
better known as Charlie Chaplin, was an Academy Award-winning filmmaker and English comedic actor. Chaplin became one of the most famous actors as well as a notable filmmaker, composer and
musician in the early to mid "Classical Hollywood" era of the American cinema.
In 1953, the Charlie Chaplin settled with their children in Corsier (just above Vevey), at the Manoir de Ban, a beautiful property surrounded by century-old trees. The children went to the local
state school, and the local cinema showed their father’s films, much to their amusement.
Every year, Sir Charles and Lady Oona Chaplin used to go to the National Circus Knie when it stopped at Vevey; they were much loved by the community.
By 1977, he died in his sleep in Vevey. He was interred in Corsier-Sur-Vevey Cemetery.
Within 2 years a Charlie Chaplin museum should open (if the Chaplin family gets all autorizations) at the Manoir de Ban in Corsier where
he lived. By that time, go to Vevey and have a look to his status which is on the lake shores.
