More than 410'000 people came to Montreux for the 2008 Christmas market, a number that almost doubled in 4 years. Not only tourists from
the region are coming, howver more and more italian, british, etc.....
More than 700 buses came to Montreux in december, especially in week-ends.
This workload involves new problems in terms of accessibility and security, so the direction of the Christmas market is currently working with local
authorities on a new concept to avoid the chaos like this December 07 that saw 75,000 people arriving.
Several options are under consideration including the possibility of introducing free bus for the weekend (as for the jazz festival, but the municipality always refused up to now for the Christmas market) or completely closing the main street, reserving it for buses
